TEAC Corporation, Tokyo, Japan... TASCAM is pleased to announce the V1.40 firmware update for the company's highly acclaimed Model 12 Integrated Production Suite. This update addresses a variety of functions that end users have been requesting and, in the process, provides greater flexibility and more intuitive operation.

The TASCAM Model 12 is a compact all-in-one integrated mixer designed for music and multimedia creators, songwriters, and performers. This versatile workstation provides a high level of functionality, including TASCAM's critically acclaimed multitrack recorder, USB audio/MIDI interface capability, DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) control functions, and unique podcasting capability including mix-minus and smartphone inputs. The Model 12 supports one's creative process, production, and workflow from start to finish—for a wide range of applications.

The Model 12's V1.40 firmware update provides enhanced USB Return capability. With this update, the USB Return channels are now re-assignable. Users can choose either Inputs 1 – 2, 9 – 10 or MAIN bus. Users who want to use the channel or live/MTR inputs on 1 and 2 while using the USB returns, can now simply assign the USB returns to 9 – 10 or MAIN bus.

Another important feature in the V1.40 update is the Track Normalize function. Normalization is the process of applying a constant amount of gain to a recorded audio track and change the level. This is especially useful for tracks that have been recorded too low. The range of normalization provided by the V1.40 update for recorded files extends from 0 to -20dB in 0.1dB increments—enabling either subtle or more noticeable changes to the audio.

Another important addition of the V1.40. update is Gain Boost. Gain refers to the amount of amplification applied to a signal. As an example, Gain may be used when a microphone signal or line signal is weak and needs to be strengthened to bring it up to the level of other audio signals. With this update, each channel gain can be independently boosted +6 or +12dB for the analog inputs—in the process providing the necessary adjustment for low level input sources.
