HS-P82
8-Track Pro Field Recorder
This model has been discontinued.
The HS-P82 is a mixer-integrated portable multi-track recorder equipped with high-quality microphone preamps, making it optimal for audio recording for filming, recording drama series, and other outdoor recording activities for broadcasting operations.
In addition to its flexibility that allows application in various environments, reliability and high sound quality required in professional-use recording is provided within its rugged full-metal body that will withstand intense usage.
New functions added in firmware
- Operation when the REC MODE page REC Mode item is set to Mirror has been improved.
- Projects and scenes with the same names are now always created on both CF cards.
- When the name of a take or current project is changed, the name of the take or current project on the other, non-current CF card will also be changed now.
- Retaking (SHIFT + STOP keys) now will also retake the take on the other, non-current CF card.
- If the REC MODE page REC Mode item is set to Mirror and mirror recording is enabled, when a take is deleted, RENAME or DELETE can be selected as the operation for the take on the other, non current CF card.
- When changing the name of a take recorded at the same time as a stereo mix (LR 2mix), the name of the stereo mix file (~_ST.wav) will also be changed now.
- In order to prevent accidentally interrupting recording, a function that requires pressing and holding the button to stop recording has been added.
- A TC GEN mode that shows the TC generator time has been added to the Home Screen time display modes.
- A pull-down menu is now used to change the Home Screen time display mode.
- Pressing the take name button on the Home Screen opens a pull-down menu item, allowing the following operations to be executed easily.
- TAKE List: Open the take list screen for the current project/scene
- CIRCLE @ TAKE: Add an "@" to or remove an "@" from the beginning of the current take name. (Circle Take)
- EDIT NAME: Open the name editing screen for the current take.
- Keys on a connected keyboard can now be used for the following functions.
- F12: Open the name editing screen for the current take.
- SHIFT+F12: Open the take list screen for the current project/scene
- Ctrl+@: Add an "@" to or remove an "@" from the beginning of the current take name. (Circle Take)
- A Bit Length setting has been added to the CREATE PROJECT screen. Along with this, the CREATE PROJECT screen has been expanded to three pages, and a CREATE PROJECT button now appears on every page.
- Line input levels can be adjusted using input trims
- Take names can be changed
- Recording can be started/stopped according to external time-code
- Additional external keyboard functions
- Digital signals with errors in parity data or valid information can be input
- Simultaneous recording to 2CF cards (mirror recording function)
- Slate on status can be retained
- Take end time code display
- Mid-side mic decoding function
- Simultaneous adjustment of input trim levels for multiple channels (trim group function)
- Total input muting (zero trim function)
Main Features
The 2-track recording function allows the recording of stereo audio after signals pass through the internal mixer, so you can quickly mix and create stereo masters on-site. Of course, you can also record 8-tracks while recording 2-track master.
Stereo tracks can be recorded in a variety of formats at up to 48kHz, while multitrack recordings can be recorded at up to 192kHz. Supported file formats include both mono/poly BWF. Conversion between mono/poly files is also possible using the POLY/MONO CONVERTER software that can be downloaded from "TASCAM.com".
* When recording at 176.4/192kHz, the maximum number of tracks is Four.
The 8 Ultra-HDDA (High Definition Discrete Architecture) mic preamps boast top-class performance even among other professional products. These high-definition mic preamps with discrete architecture have an excellent EIN rating of -125dBu. The use of electronic volume control makes linear level adjustment possible throughout the entire input gain range, something that had not been possible before. The unit also uses a TCXO (temperature-compensated crystal oscillator) with an outstanding sampling frequency precision of 1ppm. The high-quality parts of the 8 well-organized channels and the high-precision clock support high-definition sound.
By using the recorder with a dedicated RC-F82 fader unit (sold separately), you can directly and intuitively control various mixer parameters. Starting with the 100mm faders, controls that are equivalent to those of a dedicated mixer enable certain and speedy operation. In addition to the control functions, inputting the LINE OUT signal from the HS-P82 is possible, allowing mixing operation and audio monitoring even when working in a location distant from the HS-P82. Since the headphones output is capable of a maximum of 90mW/ch, monitoring at a sufficient volume is possible even in noisy environments.
When recording on location, fast and certain operation is required, so it can be said that interface that is easy to see and operate is indispensable. The HS-P82 uses a full-color touchscreen LCD to fulfill this requirement. Since the LCD is full-color, it is easy to read even outside where lighting conditions can change. Since it also has a physical tilting mechanism, you can adjust it to an angle that makes the screen easy to view even when carrying it by a shoulder strap and in other situations where the viewing angle is different from usual.
Compared to consumer audio devices, professional audio equipment must consider the security of recorded data. A representative data protection feature can be said to be the mirror recording function. This can be used when recording at 44.1/48kHz to simultaneously capture the same data on 2 CF cards, allowing a backup to be made for safety in case a recorded file is lost. In addition, the unit automatically saves the file every 20 seconds when recording, protecting the recorded file should the power be interrupted unexpectedly or another unexpected accident occurs. The hardware has also been designed with consideration for recording security. In order to prevent accidental operation, the trim knobs can be pushed in and the side panels extend past the front controls.
Since we expect this recorder to be used heavily in a variety of locations, we designed it with an extermely solid case structure. The 8mm-thick side panels, which are the most noticeable features, protect the unit from stacking with other equipment and external impacts. An all-metal structure that can endure hard use of long periods of time. In addition to the all-metal exterior, to realize a tough construction, we have utilized numerious screw connections despite the extra work required, and we have placed steel beams inside the units to improve their resistance to shock.
Since this recorder was designed with a primary function of operation outdoors where power supplies are limited, it can be powered by a variety of power sources. In addition to ordinary batteries, it can also be powered using the included 12V AC-DC adapter (compatible with 100-240V) as well as V-mount batteries. Furthermore, if a battery dies unexpectedly obtaining a replacement battery should be easy because it can also be powered by NP batteries used for video cameras.
* When connecting a V-mount battery to this unit, a C-EB (XLR) V-mount adapter from IDX System Technology, Inc. is necessary. A bracket to connect the C-EB (XLR) to the HS-P82 is included.
