SomaTone "Mystery Case Files: RavenHearst" and GVI "Game of the Year"

04-02-2007

Game of the Year and GVI, "We used the TASCAM GVI on handfuls of projects" says Kane Minkus, Head Composer and Managing Partner of SomaTone Interactive Audio, "including the PC Game: Mystery Case Files: RavenHearst, which just won a People's Choice Award for "Game Of The Year" and has been nominated for an award in February of 07 for best audio in a PC game for 2006".

As the Head Composer, Kane and his team are responsible for music and sound design on over 80 PC games, 75 Online Marketing Campaigns, several console games and films a year. In 2006 we relied heavily on TASCAM GigaStudio to meet the demands that we had for high end scoring. Not only am I a tyrant for an outstanding sample, but also the flexibility to work with and sculpt that sample to my hearts content, when in the middle of a project. GigaStudio has been my main work horse for years and I have actually required every composer I hire to work on it when they work on our scoring team. With clients that range from Disney to Microsoft, EA to Ubisoft, and Warner Bros to Sony, we have found that only Giga Studio can provide us access to rich libraries, outstanding editing control, easy interface use, incredible reliability and an overall powerhouse of effects and options to keep our music above our clients expectations.

When the TASCAM plug-in GVI came out this year, I ordered a copy for every composer on our team. These are a blessing for our work flow. Our composers often use Ableton Live as a shell for VSTi's while composing. Having the flexibility of opening Giga GVI in that environment and working with it among all our other VSTi's has been awesome. We used the TASCAM GVI on handfuls of projects including the PC Game: Mystery Case Files: RavenHearst, which just won a People's Choice Award for "Game Of The Year" and has been nominated for an award in February of 07 for best audio in a PC game for 2006. We will continue to use GVI at our studios as our composers meet demanding time schedules and diverse requests of scores that range from Orchestral to Electronic, Funk to Rock, Jazz to Blues, World to Ethnic, etc.
