Los Angeles, CA – December 2016… His music has been part of the other-worldly soundscapes of Nickelodeon staples like Catdog, Disney’s 101 Dalmatians, as well as shows like The X-Files and Six Feet Under, and he garnered an Emmy Award for his role as musical director on the legendary Pee-wee’s Playhouse. These days, guitarist/composer Glenn Jordan still keeps a full calendar of film and TV scoring, working from his home base in Los Angeles.
Like most composers, Jordan is always working on new musical ideas, and long ago got into the habit of keeping a handheld recorder nearby. “They’re ubiquitous in my life,” he confirms. “Pretty much every time I pick up a guitar I have one running.”
Recently, he’s become a fan of the new TASCAM DR-100mkIII handheld digital recorder, a 192kHz/24-Bit portable recorder designed for professionals. “The DR-100mkIII is the first handheld recorder I’ve used that really delivers high, high quality audio,” Jordan observes. “This thing is so far superior in its ability to record the most pristine acoustic guitar sounds and classical guitar sounds. Because of the high sample rates, it gives you the ability to capture those sparkling, bright, crystal-clear tones that bring so much to the sound of the guitar.”
Thanks to the DR-100mkIII, inspiration can become part of a new track anytime, Jordan reports. “The DR-100mkIII really is one of those recorders I can take out on the back porch and work out that perfect guitar part, and end up with a studio quality recording as a result.”
Jordan concludes, “ somebody at TASCAM sat down and said, ‘let’s give a musician everything they need in a handheld recorder,’ and they did it, and they did it well. Kudos to TASCAM — it’s a great little machine.”
