The TASCAM Model 12 Integrated Production Suite Re-defines Versatility for Joshua Duron

Be it live mixing, composing, or sound design, versatile mixer handles a multitude of tasks

Alhambra, CA, USA – July 2022... In the music business, the more you can manage, the better. Such is the case for Joshua Duron. This drummer, multi-instrumentalist, producer, and composer is actively involved in a myriad of projects. Over the years, he has shared the stage with several music industry legends, including James Brown, Ry Cooder, and Zack De La Rocha to name a few. These days, his work involves everything from live performance to music composition to sound design—and at the center of most everything he does is the Model 12 Integrated Production Suite from TASCAM.

According to Duron, "I've been using the Model 12 since the start of the COVID pandemic. When live music essentially dried up, it became urgently apparent that I needed to stay vital as an artist. This resulted in me shifting my focus to music composition and sound design, and the Model 12 has been at the center of most everything I do."

Duron reports that his Model 12 is at the center of his studio work, which includes both music composition and sound design. "My Model 12 has helped me create music for theatrical content, music for short films, as well as sound creation and capture. It's also an important tool for my drumming. I use the metronome when I practice, and I also use it to record my sessions for future use. It also serves as my monitor for my phone when I'm playing music from YouTube. In short, the Model 12 is extremely useful for everything I do—everyday."

The Model 12's compact form factor is another trait that appeals to Duron. "The mixer has a traditional, compact look to it, but it offers so much more," he explained. "The integrated multitrack recorder is central to my composition work while the USB audio and MIDI interface facilitates close integration with a wide range of other studio equipment, including samplers and synthesizers. I can also use the Model 12 to control the on-screen functions of my DAW. It's so easy to get a stereo mix encompassing a wide range of equipment, and that makes the Model 12 the quickest and easiest solution for getting my ideas online and accessible to the listening public."

When asked about any recent projects that involved the Model 12, Duron offered the following, "The Model 12 played a significant role in a movie directed by Matthew McCray titled The Hour of All Things. I provided some instrumental music for the project and the Model 12 was at the center of my production. Without my TASCAM Model 12, I would not have gotten the gig!"

As with much of today's electronic music and audio production equipment, questions inevitably arise, so capable and responsive customer/technical support is essential. Here too, Duron was very complimentary of TASCAM. "The folks at TASCAM get it," he said. "Many of the people I've spoken with are musicians who understand what it's like to work in the studio. They understand the urgency of the situation and can draw from their own experiences in providing assistance. They have been very helpful and can help solve everything from the most basic to the most advanced applications."

Before turning his attention back to the various production assignments on his agenda, Duron offered these parting thoughts regarding his experience with the TASCAM Model 12, "As a multi-hyphenate creative type, I find the Model 12 to be everything I need in a mixer/interface/recorder/controller. There are so many creative possibilities with this product that I find myself continually learning new things about it. Make no mistake, the TASCAM Model 12 is a 21st Century tool with 20th Century sensibilities."
